Yuko by Faye

YUKO

Yuko permanent hair straightening is a Japanese thermal reconditioning treatment that keeps hair sleek and straight for months.

THE MOBILE SERVICE

Yuko hair straightening is a long and intensive process. This bespoke at-home service is designed entirely for the client's convenience. In today’s world, people have very little time, and any spare time we do have is precious!

The process can take 2-6 hours, so having the treatment done at home means you're not sitting in a salon all day. You can relax in your own space and even work while the treatment is being applied. Clients often schedule their hair appointments after dropping the kids off at school. This way, there is enough time to have the treatment done and pick the kids up themselves without the need to arrange childcare.

Being mobile, Faye’s service offers flexibility to work around the client's schedule, with early morning, evening, and weekend appointments, making it easier to fit into your routine.
No need to rush to and from a salon, dealing with traffic, parking, or getting on a busy tube or bus. After a Yuko treatment, you can not wash or tie your hair for 48 hours. Being at home means you can avoid unnecessary exposure to humidity or rain.

WHAT ELSE SHOULD I KNOW?

Results can differ from client to client due to the individual's hair condition. Virgin hair, coloured, or damaged hair can affect the overall outcome of the treatment.

THE YUKO PROCESS

THE YUKO HAIR TREATMENT PROCESS CONSISTS OF:

3 WASHES
2 SOLUTIONS
2 BLOW DRIES
2 HOT IRON STRAIGHTENING

The Yuko Hair Straightening procedure is a multi-step treatment that permanently straightens hair using a chemical solution and heat.

Step 1: Hair Preparation

  • Hair is washed with clarifying shampoo to remove product buildup, whilst opening the cuticles for better absorption.
  • Hair is gently towel-dried, leaving it damp but not soaking.

Step 2: Application of Straightening Solution

  • A chemical solution is applied section by section. This breaks down the hair’s natural bonds, making it more flexible and able to take on a new shape.
  • The solution is left on to absorb into the hair.

Step 3: Rinsing & Blow-Drying

  • The hair is thoroughly rinsed with water to remove all chemicals.

Hair is blow-dried completely to prepare for heat sealing.

Step 4: Flat Ironing

  • This step restructures the hair bonds into a permanently straight shape.

Step 5: Neutralising Solution

  • A neutraliser is applied to lock in the straightened shape and restore the hair’s pH balance.
  • This sits for about 5 - 10 minutes before being rinsed out.

Step 6: Final Rinse & Blow-Dry

  • Hair is rinsed again with conditioner.
  • The stylist blow-dries and straightens the hair one final time to complete the process.

The process can differ slightly for different hair types.

INTENSIVE REPLENISHING TREATMENT

This rich, concentrated treatment is applied to the hair after the last wash of the YUKO process. At this point, the hair is at its most porous stage, and the treatment can penetrate through the cuticle and deepest layer of the shaft, where the strength of the hair lies. Therefore, the treatment has a stronger impact on the hair, giving a longer-lasting effects.

Faye’s home-made treatment is made of natural, non-toxic oils. This is different from the usual conditioning treatments that contain synthetic plastic materials, such as silicone, that sit on the surface of the hair and act as a superficial quick fix. You will feel the benefits of this treatment immediately and see the lasting effects for weeks after.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE?

It’s difficult to say how long the process will take. It usually depends on the length and density of the hair. Long, thick, coarse hair generally takes a long time due to the amount of hair there is to treat. Damaged, processed hair always needs more care and attention, and virgin hair can be very strong, so it will take longer to process. Treatment could take anywhere from 2 to 6 hours.

INFO & AFTERCARE

AFTERCARE

Once the Yuko treatment is complete, Faye will provide aftercare and product recommendations for the client's specific hair type.

Here are the key aftercare tips:

Proper aftercare is essential to maintain the results and prevent damage.

Colouring or any other treatments should not be done up to two weeks after the Yuko.

Colour can be done a week before the Yuko treatment.

First 48 Hours:

  • Avoid Water & Moisture: Do not wash your hair or expose it to sweat, steam, or rain.
  • No Hair Ties or Clips: Avoid tucking hair behind your ears or using bands, as they can create dents.
  • No Heat Styling: Do not use straighteners, curling tongs, or hairdryers to style the hair during this time.

Ongoing Aftercare:

    • Use a good quality Shampoo & Conditioner: Opt for moisturising, hydrating products to prevent dryness
    • Avoid Chlorine & Saltwater: If swimming, wear a cap or apply a protective leave-in conditioner. It is best to completely avoid immersing the head in the pool.
    • New hair growth will have its natural texture and will need redoing on average every 6–12 months. Curlier hair types will show regrowth sooner.

    BLEACH HIGH LIGHTS

Faye has treated many clients with High Lights but again this depends on how processed the hair is to start with. If the clients hair is already damaged from Hi Lights and Colour then the hair is deemed unsuitable for the Yuko and will not be treated.

    AFRO HAIR

Faye has regularly chemically straightened Afro and Mixed race hair with amazing results. The hair must not have any relaxers or chemicals containing Lye. The hair must be clean of any chemicals as this can cause breakage and is not suitable for the straightening treatment. Virgin hair is best on this hair type for the desirable result with Yuko.
